Tap water can... catch fire.

January 17, 2013 17:26

A household in Ohio was shocked to discover that their water tap had suddenly turned into a highly flammable object.

Debby Kline said that simply bringing a burning candle near a running faucet can cause a large flame to erupt, spreading throughout the sink, sometimes even reaching the ceiling.NBCReport the news.

Simply bring a flame close to the faucet, and it will spontaneously ignite.

The primary reason the water tap turned into a fire is believed to be the high methane content in the water. Methane is a colorless gas that occurs naturally in the earth and is highly flammable.

Kline added that four months prior, a gas exploration company had conducted exploratory drilling near her home. Kline believes that company should be held responsible for the strange water source.
