Authorities seized nearly three tons of smuggled chicken and rotten pork offal.
Nearly three tons of smuggled chicken and rotten pork offal, transported by truck from Bac Giang to Hanoi, were seized by a joint task force of Hanoi police at Phu Dong Bridge (Gia Lam district, Hanoi) on the morning of January 22nd.
At approximately 5:00 AM today (January 22nd), a joint task force comprising the Hanoi City Police Patrol Team, Department 6 of the Environmental Police, and Market Management Team No. 11 (Hanoi Market Management Department) apprehended a truck loaded with rotten chicken and pork offal of unknown origin.
The seized truck, bearing license plate 29X-1702, was driven by Ha Van Bich (born in 1973, residing in Luoc village, Dinh Ke commune). The co-driver was Nguyen Van Thanh (born in 1982, residing in Me village, Dinh Ke commune, Bac Giang city, Bac Giang province).

Driver Nguyen Van Bich confessed that the owner of the shipment was Nguyen Van Dung (residing in Hac village, Dinh Ke commune).
Bich, along with Thanh and several other strangers, unloaded approximately 96 cages of chickens (each cage containing about 12-13 chickens, mostly reddish-brown hens, each weighing about 1.7kg), and 18 containers full of foul-smelling pig udders.
The entire consignment lacked invoices or documents proving its origin, as well as quarantine certificates, and the chicken cages were not sealed.

According to Bich, the owner of the goods, Nguyen Van Dung, has a small farm raising chickens for the market. In addition, Dung regularly collects chickens from other places to sell. Bich and Thanh were hired by Dung to load and transport the chickens, receiving 150-200 thousand dong per trip.
Bich confessed that this was the second time she had transported chickens for Dung. In February 2012, Bich was also arrested while transporting chickens for Dung from Bac Ninh to Vinh Phuc for sale.
Meanwhile, assistant driver Nguyen Van Thanh confessed that Dung had hired him to load and unload chickens about 7-8 times from the end of 2012 until the time of his arrest on January 22, 2013.
Currently, the inter-agency task force has drawn up a record of administrative violations and simultaneously taken all the chickens away for destruction according to established procedures.
