By the end of May, Tan Ky district had finished harvesting spring rice, farmers were sowing rice seedlings, plowing the land to prepare for the crop. However, currently, up to 20% of the dams in the district have run out of water, and it is predicted that about 30% of the district's early-season rice production area will lack water for production.

(Baonghean) -By the end of May, Tan Ky district had finished harvesting spring rice, farmers were sowing rice seedlings, plowing the land to prepare for the crop. However, currently, up to 20% of the dams in the district have run out of water, and it is predicted that about 30% of the district's early-season rice production area will lack water for production.

Ky Tan commune currently has two dams that are no longer able to provide irrigation water in the near future. They are Nhom dam and Cay Khe dam. Nhom dam provides irrigation water for nearly 50 hectares, Cay Khe dam irrigates more than 20 hectares of production land. Present at Cay Khe dam during these extremely hot days, we saw that the water level in the dam had dropped below the dead point, no longer able to provide irrigation water. Local people said that half a month ago, the water was almost dry at the bottom, but a few days ago there was little rain, so the water rose a little, muddy, but only for buffaloes to wallow. Therefore, at the bottom of the dam now, local people dug many ditches, used pumps to pump water into the sluice gate, to get water to sow rice. However, the sluice through the dam bank and the upstream water channel system of Cay Khe dam have collapsed and damaged in many places, so the water flow is very weak. This situation has been going on for a long time, but authorities have not yet found a solution.

Cay Khe Dam of Ky Tan commune is dry and the culvert is broken.

According to the statistics of the District Agriculture Department, at this time, Tan Ky has 20% of irrigation works in a state of water depletion. Among them, the water level works are no longer capable of irrigation, such as: Dong Dang dam (Nghia Hanh), Hoa Binh dam (Nghia Phuc) ... and the 2 dams in Ky Tan mentioned above. The reason is due to prolonged heat, high surface evaporation rate, and water leakage, seeping through the dam body.

Due to the lack of proactive irrigation water sources, many areas of production land have to switch to the late season, because they have to wait for heavy rains to have water for planting. Tan Ky's plan for this crop is to plant 3,300 hectares, of which 60% are hybrid rice, the rest are pure rice varieties. Currently, the units supplying seeds and agricultural materials in the district have prepared enough quantity to supply to farmers in time. However, according to the district's forecast, about 30% of the area will lack water after planting. Therefore, farmers have proactively switched to planting bao thai rice. Although the district does not structure the planting of this rice variety, because bao thai rice is drought-resistant, people have planted it.

Faced with the prolonged hot weather, the People's Committee of Tan Ky district has directed localities to prepare plans to maximize the use of water resources in dams, such as using pumps to pump water from the dam bed to the sluice gates. The district is also using funds from irrigation fees and other sources to repair canals and sewers to use water resources economically and effectively.
