Nghe An province will build 22 new cold storage facilities to preserve seafood.

Nghe An province aims to build 22 new cold storage facilities for preserving seafood, with a capacity of 240 tons of product per year, between now and 2015. These include 10 facilities in Quynh Luu district, 5 in Dien Chau district, 5 in Cua Lo town, and 2 in Nghi Loc district.

To achieve the above objective, Nghe An province proposes that the fisheries sector and coastal localities plan locations for constructing cold storage facilities at fishing ports, wharves, fish markets, or concentrated fishing areas. This aims to facilitate the purchase and preservation of seafood after harvesting and to make it easier to supply seafood to processing facilities when they come to Nghe An to purchase products.

To facilitate the construction of seafood cold storage facilities, in addition to specifically planning construction sites, Nghe An province is also developing mechanisms to encourage organizations and individuals inside and outside the province to participate in building seafood cold storage facilities. This includes building centralized seafood purchasing and processing areas; investing in the construction and improvement of fishing ports and wharves; and encouraging not only fishing vessels from within the province but also those from outside the province to dock at ports to sell their catch.

Thanks to the policy of encouraging the development of the fisheries sector, many businesses in Nghe An have built cold storage facilities for seafood. In Nghi Tan ward, Cua Lo town alone, there are currently 41 cold storage facilities, providing employment for over 450 workers. These cold storage facilities ensure that seafood from fishermen in Cua Lo town and surrounding districts is purchased promptly, eliminating concerns about spoilage after fishing.
