Van Persie shines, bringing the FA Community Shield to Manchester United.
Dutch striker Robin van Persie once again played the hero, scoring a brace to help Manchester United beat Wigan 2-0 and win the Community Shield.
It was a very promising start to the new season for manager David Moyes and his team. This also marks the 20th FA Community Shield in the history of the Old Trafford club.

Unlike the previous friendly matches which were merely test games, in last night's clash with Wigan, coach David Moyes fielded most of his key players, including De Gea, Vidic, Evra, and Robin van Persie...
With that powerful squad, Manchester United played much better than in their last two matches against AIK and Sevilla – games where the image of the Premier League champions from last season was nowhere to be seen.
Robin van Persie took just six minutes to put Manchester United ahead with a comfortable header in the sixth minute of the match. Shortly after the break, the Dutch star extinguished Wigan's hopes of resistance with a somewhat fortunate goal, the ball deflecting off a Wigan defender's leg and leaving goalkeeper Carson helpless.
With two goals that helped the Red Devils get off to a dream start to the new season, the Dutch striker was also voted Man of the Match.
For manager David Moyes, this was the first time he had the honor of winning a title in his managerial career in England.

Despite the honor, Moyes humbly stated that the award rightfully belonged to Sir Alex Ferguson. "It's true that I just won an award, but it deserved to go to Fergie," Moyes said.
"The team we played in today was entirely built and developed by him. I was simply the guide, doing his work for him. Honestly, I owe Sir Alex so much and I'm always grateful for trusting me with the position of head coach of Manchester United."
