Today (May 24), UEFA plans to announce the decision that the Europa League champion will win a place in the Champions League from 2015.

The Europa League champions will secure a place in the Champions League from 2015 onwards.

This decision will raise the level of the second-tier tournament in the European Cup – Europa League, where Chelsea just won the championship after defeating Benfica 2-1 in the final. It is worth mentioning that bothChelseaand Benfica were both eliminated from the Champions League after finishing third in their group.

This new rule also means that England, Spain or Germany can have 5 places in the Champions League in the 2015/16 season, if one of their representatives wins the 2014/15 Europa League and is not in the top 4 in the domestic league.
