Nadal defeats Federer, set to reclaim world number two ranking.
Roger Federer put up a valiant fight against Rafael Nadal in the final quarterfinal of the 2013 Cincinnati Masters, but it wasn't enough for the "Swiss Express" to overcome a Nadal who was in excellent form.
Although Federer saved four match points, that only made the battle between him and Nadal more dramatic, before the Swiss player had to accept defeat to his rival with scores of 5-7, 6-4, and 6-3.

Federer played very well but still couldn't overcome Nadal. With his elimination in the Cincinnati quarterfinals, Federer will drop out of the world No. 5 ranking, while Nadal will climb to No. 2 if the Spaniard wins the title next Sunday, according to the ATP Tour.
Facing a Nadal who had just won the Montreal tournament, Federer started well and won the first set 7-5 after a tremendous effort. However, the Swiss player let his advantage slip away, allowing Nadal to come back and win the next two sets.
In their 31st encounter, Federer and Nadal delivered a spectacular and dramatic match, befitting their reputations. Federer proved that he is not past his prime, while Nadal, as Novak Djokovic observed, simply had no rivals in 2013.
“I’m happy with my performance. I could have won this match. But ultimately, I think Nadal’s confidence and style of play helped him advance,” said Federer, who will drop to world number 7 when the ATP rankings are announced in two weeks, after the match. This will also be Federer’s lowest ranking in 11 years.
In the semi-finals, Nadal will face Berdych of the Czech Republic, who defeated Andy Murray in the quarter-finals. In the other semi-final, John Isner will meet Martin del Potro.
