SEA Games 27: Green, Clean, and Friendship

(Baonghean)On December 11, 2013, approximately 30,000 people will gather at the Wunna Theikdi Stadium in Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar, to witness the opening ceremony of the 27th SEA Games.

On December 8th, Vietnamese wushu received good news when athlete Phuong Giang shone on the women's taekwondo mat, bringing home the second gold medal for Vietnam at the 2013 SEA Games.

At this SEA Games, with the slogan "Green, Clean, and Friendship," Myanmar is determined to host a resounding event to impress its neighbors and the international community with the 11-day Southeast Asian regional sporting event (December 11th to 22nd).

The 27th SEA Games featured 33 sports and awarded 1,557 medals, including 460 gold, 460 silver, and 637 bronze. The mascots of the 27th SEA Games are a pair of owls, considered a charming symbol of Myanmar tradition. The male owl is named Shwe Yoe and the female is named Ma Moe. The flag-raising ceremony for the participating countries will take place at 3 PM on December 10th.

According to the registration list, the Vietnamese sports delegation participating in the 2013 SEA Games consists of 511 athletes (286 men and 225 women) competing in 29 sports. Wushu was the first Vietnamese team to compete at the 27th SEA Games (competing on December 7th) and also the first delegation to return (one day before the closing ceremony on the night of December 11th).

During the 27th SEA Games, Nghe An Newspaper will update news and publish commentary articles on its online platform (baonghean.vn) and in its daily print edition.
