(Baonghean.vn) -The people of the two villages of O O and Gia Hop in Tuong Son commune (Anh Son district) always express their admiration and affection for Mr. Luong Van Thuy whenever they mention him. As the Party branch secretary (the two villages share one branch), Mr. Thuy always takes the lead and sets a good example in all his work, so that the villagers can learn from and follow his example.

Born in 1962, Luong Van Thuy received a high level of education from his parents from a young age. During that time, he was the only one in his village to complete high school. After graduating, he served in the military and became a member of the Communist Party. Upon returning to his hometown after his military service, he was deeply concerned about the hardships faced by his village and fellow villagers, with poverty and hunger constantly threatening their lives.

Through diligent research, he discovered that the root cause of poverty was the limited level of awareness and scientific and technical knowledge among the villagers, coupled with a persistent mentality of dependence and reliance. Therefore, Luong Van Thuy believed that to change their lives, it was first necessary to change their mindset. But to convince them of what he said, he had to show them firsthand his actions.

Having received a basic education and having had the opportunity to broaden his horizons, he decided to start building his family's economy. First, he mobilized capital to develop his livestock and poultry. At one point, his family's herd of cattle and pigs numbered in the dozens, and his flock of chickens reached hundreds. Once the livestock and poultry were stable, Luong Van Thuy continued by digging ponds for fish farming.

Taking advantage of streams and barren land, he transformed them into rows of ponds teeming with fish year-round, ensuring a daily food supply while also providing for the market and generating a considerable income. For low-yielding rice paddies that could only produce one crop per year, he boldly introduced new varieties to grow two crops, resulting in higher yields. For older, degraded fields, his family invested in planting acacia trees for timber. As a result, their income steadily increased, reaching approximately 100 million VND per year.

Seeing that Mr. Luong Van Thuy's family had boldly invested and run their business successfully, people from the two villages of O O and Gia Hop came to his house to learn about farming and livestock techniques. He enthusiastically guided them through each step. Following Mr. Thuy's advice, many households borrowed capital to start businesses, initially escaping poverty and accumulating savings.

Luong Van Thuy's reputation grew, and he was elected village head by the people of Gia Hop. Later, he was elected Party Secretary of O O-Gia Hop. Over the years, the people here have faced many difficulties, so in addition to promoting economic development models, he also encouraged the villagers to create opportunities for their children to receive an education. All of his children completed high school; some became village heads, others became Youth Union secretaries, and all are hardworking.

The village had not yet received investment for the construction of an electricity grid. After numerous requests went unanswered, he mobilized the villagers to contribute money and labor to build it. Initially, the mobilization was difficult, as many households were still struggling financially, and the mentality of relying on the government had not completely disappeared. Thanks to his perseverance, he finally succeeded in bringing electricity to the village. This spring, the village finally had electricity, bringing joy to everyone and reminding them of the kindness of Party Secretary Luong Van Thuy.

The villages of Ồ Ồ and Già Hóp are remote and border areas, making the security and order situation quite complex. In particular, some unscrupulous individuals exploit the limited awareness and difficult living conditions of the villagers to lure and entice them into illegal activities. Faced with this situation, Mr. Thủy went to each household to educate and persuade the villagers, explaining the schemes of these criminals so that they would no longer listen to them. Seeing that his words were reasonable and compassionate, everyone listened and respected him even more.

In a conversation with us, Party Secretary Luong Van Thuy still expressed his concerns: “Life has improved, but compared to the overall standard of living in the commune, the living standards of the people in the two villages of O O and Gia Hop are still low. The people urgently need loans to develop production and training to improve their scientific and technical skills.”
