A diet rich in fruits may reduce the risk of developing abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Eating plenty of fruit helps reduce the risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm.

The aorta is the body's main artery, originating from the heart and running through the chest down to the abdomen. An abdominal aortic aneurysm is a dilation of the aorta within the abdominal cavity. If left unmonitored and untreated, the aneurysm will grow larger, increasing the risk of rupture. If rupture occurs, it can cause significant blood loss and lead to death.

In a new study published in the journal Circulation, researchers analyzed more than 80,000 Swedes aged 46-84 over a 13-year period. During the study, 1,100 participants developed aortic aneurysms, and 222 of those ruptured.

After examining the eating habits of the survey participants, researchers found that those who ate two servings of fruit a day had a 25% lower risk of developing an aortic aneurysm and a 43% lower risk of abdominal aortic rupture compared to those who ate one serving of fruit.

According to researchers, the antioxidants in fruits may fight inflammation and prevent the risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Dr. Otto Stackellberg works at the Institute of Environmental Medicine at the Karolinska Institute.StockholmHe stated: "Consuming plenty of fruit helps the body prevent many vascular-related diseases, especially offering significant benefits in reducing the risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm."
