Japan: 13 people dead due to snowstorm.

According to NHK, a major snowstorm that swept through Tokyo and other parts of Japan last weekend killed 13 people and injured nearly 1,700 others.

According to NHK, in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, western Japan, a taxi plunged into a lake, killing its 68-year-old driver. Police suspect the driver lost control due to icy roads.


In Nagakute City, Aichi Prefecture, central Japan, a 50-year-old man died after his car crashed into an iron sign placed on the sidewalk.

A 78-year-old man in Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture, near Tokyo, died after slipping and falling while shoveling snow.

A total of 6,155 accidents involving cars skidding on icy roads have been recorded across 36 prefectures and cities in Japan.

More than 1,800 homes in Ibaraki, Fukushima, and Miyagi prefectures are still without power.

According to Hanoimoi
