High-end home appliances are attracting customers.
Established brands with a strong market presence continue to receive significant attention.
Since mid-May, scorching heat has blanketed Northern Vietnam. In Hanoi, the home appliance market has truly entered its peak season. According to representatives from many electronics supermarkets, high-end home appliances have been and continue to be very popular with customers.
Purchasing power surged.
This year, the hot weather arrived later than in previous years. But after just a few days of prolonged heat, with temperatures approaching 40 degrees Celsius, the number of customers looking to buy air conditioning products has skyrocketed.
Large electronics supermarkets like Media Mart have seen sales of cooling products such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and fans increase by over 200% compared to the same period last month. Sales of items like fans, blenders, and ice cream makers have increased by approximately 300%. Over the past weekend alone, due to the intense heat, the number of customers buying air conditioners and fans increased four to five times compared to other weekends.

The surge in demand was not unexpected by supermarkets, as they had stocked up in advance, preventing any shortages in their warehouses. Retail stores selling home appliances on Minh Khai and Cau Giay streets also saw a 60-70% increase in customers compared to the previous month.
The surge in demand has resulted in many supermarkets and stores lacking sufficient technicians for installation. In many cases, customers have to wait 1-2 days after purchasing a new appliance for installation, while repairs can take up to 2-3 days.
Regarding prices, according to a representative from Media Mart electronics supermarket: Air conditioners and refrigerators have seen a slight price increase compared to the same period last year, ranging from 3-5%. However, this has not affected consumer purchasing power. Even during peak days, prices at retail stores outside the supermarket may increase by 7-10%, yet products continue to sell well.
High-end products attract customers.
Currently, the air conditioning market is mainly divided into three main segments: The first segment consists of high-end products imported directly from manufacturers in Thailand or Malaysia, such as Panasonic, Fujitsu, and Daikin. The second segment includes domestically assembled joint venture products from Funiki, LG, and Samsung. The final segment comprises products from China, such as Midea, Denso, and Gree.
"However, customers are mainly interested in the first segment, especially branded products like Daikin and Panasonic." This is the general opinion of large supermarkets such as Media Mart, Pico, HC… and also retail stores in Hoang Mai, Thanh Xuan, and Cau Giay districts. Customers mainly buy 9,000 BTU-12,000 BTU models with an average price of 8-12 million VND.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Son, the owner of a company specializing in distributing Daikin air conditioners, said: "Electrical appliances are products with a long lifespan. Buyers mainly pay attention to the quality, durability, and features of the goods. Therefore, established brands with a strong market presence always receive a lot of attention."
In fact, products manufactured entirely abroad are of significantly higher quality than those assembled domestically. Furthermore, major companies have extensive distribution networks, easily meeting customer needs, including installation and after-sales warranty services.
Meanwhile, the low-end segment is gradually losing its market share, with fewer customers looking to buy these models. Many models have been out of stock for a long time, but store owners are no longer keen on restocking. This indicates a shift in consumer trends regarding refrigeration products in Hanoi.
