According to observations at the scene by a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper, the aforementioned rosewood stump is 2.1m long, 1.1m in diameter, with a distance of 3m between the two roots, a hollow core of about 60cm, weighs about 2 tons, and is worth about 3 billion VND (1kg of rosewood currently costs about 15 million VND).

Many locals believe that this rosewood stump must have been lying at the bottom of the stream for at least decades, because after it was retrieved, many parts of the wood had rotted away.

After recovering the aforementioned rosewood stump, Mr. Tran Quang Vu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bo Trach district, said that the rosewood log would be taken to the Bo Trach Forest Management Unit for weighing and measurement, then handed over to the Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee for appraisal and auction to the public. A percentage of the auction proceeds will be given to the discoverer, as per regulations.

According to a source close to Dan Tri newspaper, with the current price of rosewood, many rosewood dealers say that Mr. Thoi and his son received at least 900 million VND.

Earlier this morning (February 26), authorities in Quang Binh province urgently began the salvage operation of valuable rosewood logs in the Trooc stream area, Thanh Sen village, Phuc Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province.

According to Dan Tri newspaper, this morning authorities deployed two more excavators, one bulldozer, and one dump truck to continue salvaging the valuable rosewood log, worth billions of VND, that is stuck under rocks in the Trooc stream.

At the site, an excavator filled in the stream, blocking its flow, and simultaneously dug a new channel around the original location. Then, both excavators moved closer to the spot where the rosewood was located and continued to use chains to pull the wood up.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Van Duan, Deputy Head of the Quang Binh Forest Protection Department, said that to ensure the absolute safety of the rosewood log located in the Trooc ravine, on the evening of February 25th, the Department deployed more than 90 people, including police and forest rangers, to be on constant duty around the location of the rosewood log.

“Around 2 a.m. on February 26, more than 30 people from outside attempted to infiltrate the area, diving into the stream to cut down rosewood trees. However, the authorities promptly detected them and resolutely drove the group out of the area,” Mr. Duan added.
