(Baonghean) - Comrade Tran Phu - the first General Secretary of the Party came from a family of patriotic Confucian scholars. His father, Tran Van Pho (originally from Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province), worked as a teacher in Tuy An district; his mother, Hoang Thi Cat, gave birth to him in An Tho citadel, Tuy An district, Phu Yen province (now An Dan commune, Tuy An district, Phu Yen province) on May 1, 1904. Both Tran Phu's father and mother died when he was very young because of their resentment at the exploitation of the semi-feudal colonial regime. With the help of his brothers and relatives, he was still able to go to school and passed the Thanh Chung exam. He was appointed as a teacher at Cao Xuan Duc Primary School (Nghe An) and soon joined patriotic organizations such as the Phuc Viet Association (a patriotic organization established in Vinh City (Nghe An).
