A shining example of the intelligence, morality and spirit of a communist
(Baonghean) - Comrade Tran Phu - the first General Secretary of the Party came from a family of patriotic Confucian scholars. His father, Tran Van Pho (originally from Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province), worked as a teacher in Tuy An district; his mother, Hoang Thi Cat, gave birth to him in An Tho citadel, Tuy An district, Phu Yen province (now An Dan commune, Tuy An district, Phu Yen province) on May 1, 1904. Both of Tran Phu's parents died when he was very young because of their resentment towards the exploitation of the semi-feudal colonial regime. With the help of his brothers and relatives, he was still able to go to school and passed the Thanh Chung exam. He was appointed as a teacher at Cao Xuan Duc Primary School (Nghe An) and soon joined patriotic organizations such as the Phuc Viet Association (a patriotic organization established in Vinh City (Nghe An).

In 1926, comrade Tran Phu was sent to Guangzhou to contact the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association, met leader Nguyen Ai Quoc and participated in a cadre training class taught by him, which equipped Tran Phu with basic knowledge of the proletarian revolution and the theory of Marxism-Leninism. After that, he returned to the country to propagate the revolutionary viewpoints and lines and mobilized the leadership of the Vietnam Revolutionary Party to incorporate all the contents, programs and methods organized by the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association into training. During the period 1927 - 1929, Tran Phu was introduced by Nguyen Ai Quoc to be the Party Cell Secretary of the Vietnamese Communists studying at the Oriental University.
In July 1930, comrade Tran Phu was introduced by Nguyen Ai Quoc to join the Provisional Executive Committee, assigned to draft the Political Platform and it was approved at the First Conference of the Party Central Committee (October 1930). Also at this conference, he was elected the first General Secretary of the Party.
On April 18, 1931, comrade Tran Phu was arrested and interrogated by the enemy at the Big Prison - Saigon. Before his last breath on September 6, 1931, comrade Tran Phu told his comrades the famous words: "Keep up your fighting spirit".
Comrade Tran Phu - the first General Secretary of our Party, a staunch communist, an excellent theorist, an excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh. For nearly a year holding the position of General Secretary of the Party, he made outstanding contributions, leaving our Party and people a shining example of the intelligence, morality, and spirit of a communist. He was an example of sacrifice, a lifelong struggle for the Party's ideals, wholeheartedly serving the Fatherland and the people; a shining example of the will and determination of a communist party member, an excellent theorist of the Party. The name and career of Comrade General Secretary Tran Phu have become a noble symbol, followed by our cadres, party members, and people.
