Moldova election results: 3 pro-Western parties win majority
Moldova's Central Election Commission (CEC) announced on December 5 the final results of the parliamentary elections with the Socialist Party winning the most votes, but three right-wing pro-European Union (EU) parties still won enough votes to "renew" their coalition government.
According to the CEC, five parties exceeded the threshold (won more than 6% of the votes), specifically the Socialist Party won the most votes with 20.51%; the Liberal Democratic Party won 20.16%; the Communist Party, 17.48%; the Democratic Party, 15.8%; and the Liberal Party, 9.67%. With the above vote ratio, the Socialist Party received 24 seats in the future Parliament; the Liberal Democratic Party received 23 seats; the Communist Party, 21 seats; the Democratic Party, 19 seats and the Liberal Party, 13 seats.

The CEC will submit the final results to the Constitutional Court, which will either confirm or deny the results of the election within 10 days. If the results are confirmed, the newly elected National Assembly will convene its first session within 30 days after the election, according to the Constitution.
The three pro-European Union parties (the Liberal Democrats, the Democrats and the Freedom Party) won a total of 55 seats in the 101-seat parliament, which would allow them to form a new coalition government. However, electing a new president would require 61 votes in the future parliament.
The composition of the new parliament reflects an "uncertain" political situation in the country as these three parties as well as the two pro-Russian left-wing parties, the Socialists and the Communists, do not have enough seats to ensure that their presidential candidate is elected.
According to Moldova's Constitution, the Parliament elects the President and if no candidate receives the required number of votes in two ballots, the Parliament is dissolved./.
