Moldova election results: 3 pro-Western parties win a majority.
Moldova's Central Election Commission (CEC) announced the final results of the parliamentary elections on December 5th, showing the Socialist Party receiving the majority of votes, but three right-wing parties close to the European Union (EU) still secured enough votes to "renew" their coalition government.
According to the CEC, five parties surpassed the threshold (winning more than 6% of the vote), specifically the Socialist Party won the most votes with 20.51%; the Liberal Democratic Party won 20.16%; the Communist Party, 17.48%; the Democratic Party, 15.8%; and the Liberal Party, 9.67%. With these vote percentages, the Socialist Party will receive 24 seats in the future Parliament; the Liberal Democratic Party will receive 23 seats; the Communist Party, 21 seats; the Democratic Party, 19 seats; and the Liberal Party, 13 seats.

The CEC will submit the final results to the Constitutional Court, which will recognize or reject the election results within 10 days. If the results are recognized, the newly elected National Assembly will hold its first session within 30 days of the election, as stipulated by the Constitution.
The three pro-European Union parties (the Liberal Democrats, the Democrats, and the Liberals) won a combined 55 seats in the 101-seat Parliament, which will allow them to form a new coalition government. However, electing a new president will require 61 votes in the future Parliament.
The structure of the new parliament reflects an "uncertain" political situation in the country because these three parties, as well as the two pro-Russian left-wing parties, the Socialist Party and the Communist Party, do not have enough seats to guarantee that their presidential candidates will be elected.
According to the Moldovan Constitution, Parliament elects the President, and if no candidate receives the necessary number of votes in two rounds of voting, Parliament is dissolved.
