Tuong Duong: 127 students absent from school due to suspected measles outbreak

(Baonghean.vn) - On October 14, the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district and the Department of Education and Training of Tuong Duong allowed 127 students in Pieng Coc village, Mai Son commune to stay home from school to prevent the outbreak of measles-like rash fever.

On the afternoon of October 14, Mr. Vi Tan Hoi - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district said that 127 students at 3 levels of preschool, primary and secondary school in Pieng Coc village will be off school for 15 days (starting from October 14) due to the outbreak of measles-like rash fever in recent days so that doctors can treat and control the spread of measles to other areas.

Previously, on October 10, after establishing a field treatment area right at the commune's primary school and disease prevention measures, the number of suspected measles rash fever cases in Mai Son commune was controlled, no new measles cases were recorded and there was no risk of death.

“As of 4 p.m. today (October 14), there were no new cases of children with measles-like rash fever in Mai Son commune. According to information from the District Health Center, out of 17 samples sent for testing, 8 samples tested positive for measles virus. Currently, 48 cases of measles-like rash fever (aged 1-14, mainly in Pieng Coc village) are being treated and monitored by doctors in the treatment area,” said Mr. Hoi.

According to the Nghe An Department of Health, on September 29, two Laotian children had a fever and were taken to the Mai Son Commune Health Station (Tuong Duong) for treatment, and this could be the source of the disease. To control the spread, the Department of Health sent 12 doctors to this field treatment area, and also brought 2 oxygen generators to the Mai Son Commune Health Station to prevent patients from developing serious complications, acute respiratory failure, and worsening conditions.

Mr. Hoang Dang Hao - Deputy Director of the Department of Health said: "Currently, the number of measles rash cases in Mai Son commune has been controlled. The Department has also established a mobile emergency team including a team of doctors from the Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, modern technical equipment such as ventilators, generators, and special medical equipment. This team will be on duty 24/7, if there is an incident, they will go to the treatment area for treatment."
