Tuong Duong: 127 students stay home from school due to suspected measles outbreak.

(Baonghean.vn) - On October 14th, the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district and the Department of Education and Training of Tuong Duong province allowed 127 students in Pieng Coc village, Mai Son commune, to stay home from school to prevent an outbreak of measles-like rash.

On the afternoon of October 14th, Mr. Vi Tan Hoi, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district, announced that 127 students from preschool, primary, and secondary schools in Pieng Coc village will be absent from school for 15 days (starting from October 14th) due to the recent outbreak of measles-like rash, allowing doctors to treat and control the spread of the disease to other areas.

Previously, on October 10th, after establishing a field treatment area right at the commune's primary school and implementing disease prevention measures, the number of suspected measles cases in Mai Son commune was brought under control, with no new measles infections recorded and no risk of death.

“As of 4 PM today (October 14th), there have been no new cases of measles-like rash among children in Mai Son commune. According to information from the District Health Center, out of 17 samples sent for testing, 8 tested positive for the measles virus. Currently, 48 cases of measles-like rash (aged 1-14, mainly in Pieng Coc village) are being treated and monitored by doctors at the treatment area,” Mr. Hoi said.

According to the Nghe An Department of Health, on September 29, two Lao children developed a fever and were taken to the Mai Son commune health station (Tuong Duong district) for treatment, and this may be the source of the infection. To control the spread, the Department of Health has sent 12 doctors to this field treatment area and also brought two oxygen concentrators to the Mai Son commune health station to prepare for patients with severe complications, acute respiratory failure, or worsening conditions.

Mr. Hoang Dang Hao, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, said: “Currently, the number of measles cases in Mai Son commune has been brought under control. The Department has also established a mobile emergency team including doctors from the Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, and modern technical equipment such as ventilators, generators, and specialized medical instruments. This team will be on duty 24/7, and if any situation arises, they will be dispatched to the treatment area to provide care.”
