In 2014, the Department of Transport strengthened various measures to manage transport activities in the province and initially reduced illegal bus stops, unlicensed vehicles, and vehicles operating in a roundabout manner to pick up and drop off passengers in violation of regulations; opened more passenger transport routes and public transport by bus, facilitating people's travel, increasing the total number of passenger transport vehicles operating to 1,864 and 93 containerized cargo transport vehicles licensed by the Department of Transport. Vehicle management through the vehicle tracking system continued to be maintained. In the field of managing road freight transport, the Department resolutely issued administrative fines and forced the unloading of 21 vehicles with Lao license plates carrying overloaded timber, 193 vehicles voluntarily removed illegally modified parts of their cargo beds, and imposed administrative fines on 7,455 violations with a total fine amount exceeding 25 billion VND. During the year, the industry also organized periodic health check-ups for 100% of passenger transport drivers, promptly identifying drivers who did not meet the qualifications and standards to drive, contributing to reducing unfortunate accidents.
Speaking at the concluding meeting, the transport units agreed with the policies and measures implemented by the Department of Transport. Accordingly, along with measures to inspect and strictly handle units that still violate transport regulations, the units proposed the rapid construction and operation of the North and South bus stations in Vinh City to help reduce traffic congestion and facilitate passenger pick-up and drop-off.
Recognizing the efforts of transportation businesses in the area, the Director of the Department of Transport awarded Certificates of Commendation to 10 companies and 6 individuals. Van Minh Co., Ltd. was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Transport, and one individual from Van Minh Co., Ltd. received a Certificate of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee.
