The plan for developing information and communication systems in Vietnam's coastal border areas, sea areas, and islands until 2020 has just been approved by the Prime Minister.

The goal by 2020 is to develop broadband fixed and mobile telecommunications networks and digital television coverage to provide telecommunications and digital television services to communes in coastal border areas, island districts, and sea areas within a 100 km radius from the shore. The aim is to continue expanding coverage and improving the quality of maritime radio services for fishermen.

By 2020, ensure that 100% of communes in coastal border areas and island communes have public postal service points and are equipped with local broadcasting systems.

Regarding public telecommunications networks, the plan involves developing broadband access networks to households, expanding coverage to provide broadband information services to individuals and organizations everywhere, anytime in coastal border communes, 12 island districts, islands with an area of ​​over 10 km2, and surrounding areas.

In addition, investment in and upgrading of equipment and antenna height will expand the coverage of mobile communication services in Vietnam's waters, reaching a range of 100 km from the shore, including ship anchorages, traditional fishing grounds, and areas with active marine economic activities.

Continue developing broadband VSAT networks based on the use of Vinasat satellites to provide telecommunication services to people in coastal and island areas; build fiber optic cables from the mainland to islands, between islands and within islands, and broadband microwave links in island districts to meet the needs of economic development, tourism, and national security and defense.

According to the Decision, the development of terrestrial digital television, satellite television (DTH), cable television, and IPTV networks will also be undertaken to provide high-quality, diverse television services in island districts and islands with an area exceeding 10 square kilometers.

Research and develop infrastructure to provide mobile television services in Vietnam's maritime areas to serve people working at sea.

Providing fishermen with communication equipment, terminals, and integrated devices installed on fishing vessels to receive weather information and fishing ground forecasts from shore stations, and to transmit information on the fishing vessel's location and maritime security situation back to shore stations; high-sensitivity radio receivers, long-range ICOM radios, and digital satellite mobile television receivers.
