The Prime Minister has just approved the planning for the development of information and communication systems in Vietnam's sea border areas, seas and islands until 2020.

The goal by 2020 is to develop a fixed and mobile broadband telecommunications network, digital television coverage to provide telecommunications and digital television services to communes in coastal border areas, island districts, and sea areas within a radius of 100 km from the shore. Continue to expand coverage and improve the quality of radio services at sea to serve fishermen.

By 2020, ensure that 100% of communes in coastal border areas and island communes have public postal service points and are equipped with grassroots broadcasting systems.

Regarding the public telecommunications network, develop a broadband access network to households, expand coverage to provide broadband information services to individuals and organizations everywhere, anytime in coastal border communes, 12 island districts, islands with an area of ​​over 10 km2 and neighboring areas.

In addition, invest in and upgrade equipment systems and antenna heights to expand the coverage of mobile information services in Vietnam's sea areas to reach a coverage range of 100 km from shore, boat anchorage areas, traditional fishing grounds, and sea areas with marine economic activities.

Continue to develop broadband VSAT networks based on the use of Vinasat satellites to provide telecommunications services to people in coastal and island areas; build fiber optic cable lines from the mainland to the islands, inter-island and intra-island, and broadband microwave lines in island districts to meet the needs of economic development, tourism, security and national defense.

Also according to the Decision, digital terrestrial television network, satellite television (DTH) and cable television, IPTV will be developed to provide high-quality, diverse television services in island districts and islands with an area of ​​over 10 km2.

Research and build infrastructure to provide mobile television services in Vietnam's sea areas to serve people working at sea.

Support fishermen with communication equipment, terminals, and integrated equipment installed on fishing vessels to receive weather information and fishing ground forecasts from shore stations and send information on fishing vessel locations and security situations at sea to shore stations; highly sensitive radio receivers, long-range ICOM communication devices, and digital satellite mobile TV receivers.
