(Baonghean.vn) - The surgery, performed by a team of doctors and nurses, lasted over two hours to remove 15 cm of ruptured small intestine, suture the colon, and reconstruct the abdominal wall.

On the afternoon of December 31st, Dr. Tran Minh Long, Head of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Nghe An General Hospital, announced that they had just performed an emergency surgery to save a female patient with multiple abdominal injuries.
According to Doctor Long, patient Le Thi Thao (17 years old, residing in Hung Son commune, Anh Son district) was transferred from the emergency department for emergency surgery in a critical condition with a crushed abdominal wall requiring reconstruction; a ruptured small intestine requiring resection of 15 cm; a crushed colon requiring sutures; and 1 liter of blood loss in the abdominal cavity. The patient needed urgent intravenous fluids and surgery.
Immediately afterwards, the team of seven doctors and nurses worked for more than two hours and completed the surgery for patient Thao this afternoon, December 31st. Currently, Thao's health is recovering well, but she is under special monitoring," said Doctor Long.
Earlier this morning, at over 6:00 AM on December 31st, patient Le Thi Thao was admitted to the emergency department by her family in a state of severe blood loss. Emergency department doctors determined that the victim had a jagged wound on the left side of her abdomen, suspected to be caused by an explosive device.
It is known that on the night of December 30th, Thao went out with friends and the incident occurred in Con Cuong district. After receiving first aid at the district hospital, Thao was transferred by her family to the Provincial General Hospital.
The family is currently unaware of the cause of the accident.
