While some cells can self-renew, such as blood or skin cells, heart cells stop dividing soon after birth, so once heart cells are damaged, they are permanently damaged, said Professor Richard Harvey of the Chang Victor Institute.
However, according to experts, it is now possible to treat damaged hearts after each heart failure.
The researchers focused on a particular hormone, then applied a receptor-boosting technique and found that heart cells proliferated, increasing their cell numbers by up to 45%.
Professor Harvey affirmed that this discovery is an important step forward in the field of cardiology, opening up the prospect of realizing the dream of heart regeneration in the future./.
