National Assembly House 'won' Grand Prize for Architecture 2014

On April 15, the Vietnam Association of Architects announced 27 works that won the 2014 National Architecture Award. Accordingly, the National Assembly House project by the group of architects Meinhard Von, Gerkan, Nikolaus Goetze, architect Dirk Heller, architect Joern Ortmann (gmp International GmbH) was awarded the Grand Prize.

The National Architecture Awards Council assessed: The National Assembly House is a project that demonstrates the talent of the architects in successfully handling the requirements of functionality, paying special attention to the working environment inside the building. In addition, the architects when designing this project have successfully handled complex technological solutions, but still ensured the harmony between the project and the surrounding landscape, especially the harmony with the important and symbolic projects of the Capital such as President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Bac Son Martyrs Monument and the World Heritage Site of Thang Long Imperial Citadel...

Notably, in the 2014 National Architecture Award season, Architect Vo Trong Nghia and his colleagues won a hat-trick of awards.

Specifically, in the category of Single-family House Architecture, with the Binh Thanh House architecture, architects Vo Trong Nghia, Shunri Nishizawa and Daisuke were awarded the Gold Prize. The second Gold Prize that architect Vo Trong Nghia and his colleagues were named for was in the category of Public Works (Service works, hotels, resorts) for the Son La Restaurant project. The project that helped architect Vo Trong Nghia and his colleagues complete the 2014 Architecture Award treble was the Green Kindergarten - Farming Kindergarten (Bien Hoa, Dong Nai) also in the category of Public Works (schools, hospitals).

In addition to Architect Vo Trong Nghia and his colleagues scoring a hat-trick, the group of Architects Nguyen Hoa Hiep, Nguyen Van Dung, Phung Nguyen Duy Anh, Ngo Giao Tien, and Nghiem Dinh Toan of a21 Studio also won three Council Awards for the works Bird's Nest (Residential Architecture Category), The Tent, and Revival (Public Works Category).

In the Complex Housing category this year, there was no Gold award, only 2 Council Awards for the Nhon Trach Industrial Park Workers' Housing Project and the Social Housing Project - Lot NO1.

Although not selected for the Gold prize, according to the assessment of the National Architecture Award Council, the two Council awards for the two above-mentioned projects show success in both planning, organization of public space, green space and apartment design solutions... That is proof that investors have actively innovated in the perspective of "smart investment", have awareness of environmental protection and share benefits with the community.

In addition to the above 6 awards, the Award Council also awarded 21 other awards to architects who had excellent construction designs in other categories such as Interior and Exterior Design, Urban Design, Urban Planning Projects, Architectural Publications, etc.

On the morning of April 18, the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Association of Architects (2015-2020) with the participation of 556 delegates representing nearly 6,000 architect members nationwide will take place at the Hanoi Friendship Cultural Palace.

At 2:00 p.m. on the same day, the Award Council will cut the ribbon to open the 2014 National Architecture Exhibition and present the 2014 National Architecture Awards. On April 19, the Vietnam Association of Architects will hold an open discussion on the topic of Architects, authors, and works. The main content of the discussion will be to discuss the practice of architecture in Vietnam and the world, architectural integration, and the future of the country's architecture in the new era.

The 9th Congress of the Vietnam Association of Architects will close on the afternoon of April 21.
