The National Assembly building 'wins' the Grand Prize for architecture in 2014.

On April 15th, the Vietnam Association of Architects announced the 27 winning entries of the 2014 National Architecture Awards. Accordingly, the National Assembly building, designed by the team of architects Meinhard Von, Gerkan, Nikolaus Goetze, Dirk Heller, and Joern Ortmann (gmp International GmbH), was awarded the Grand Prize.

The National Architecture Award Council assessed that the National Assembly building demonstrates the talent of foreign architects in successfully handling functional requirements, paying special attention to the working environment inside the building. Furthermore, the architects successfully implemented complex technological solutions while ensuring harmony between the building and its surrounding landscape, especially with important, iconic landmarks of the capital such as the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the Bac Son Martyrs' Monument, and the Thang Long Imperial Citadel World Heritage Site...

The Parliament House project by architects Meinhard Von, Gerkan, Nikolaus Goetze, Dirk Heller, and Joern Ortmann (gmp International GmbH) was awarded the Grand Prize.

In particular, during the 2014 National Architecture Awards season, architect Vo Trong Nghia and his colleagues achieved a hat-trick of awards.

Specifically, in the category of Detached House Architecture, architects Vo Trong Nghia, Shunri Nishizawa, and Daisuke were awarded the Gold Prize for the Binh Thanh House. The second Gold Prize for architect Vo Trong Nghia and his colleagues was in the Public Works category (Service buildings, hotels, resorts) for the Son La Restaurant project. The project that helped architect Vo Trong Nghia and his colleagues complete a triple win at the 2014 Architecture Awards was the Green Kindergarten - Farming Kindergarten (Bien Hoa, Dong Nai), also in the Public Works category (schools, hospitals).

Besides architect Vo Trong Nghia and his colleagues achieving a hat-trick, the team of architects Nguyen Hoa Hiep, Nguyen Van Dung, Phung Nguyen Duy Anh, Ngo Giao Tien, and Nghiem Dinh Toan from a21 Studio also won a triple award in the Jury Prize for their projects: Bird's Nest (Residential Architecture category), The Tent, and Resurrection (Public Works category).

In the Housing Complex category this year, there was no Gold Award, only two Jury Awards for the Nhon Trach Industrial Park Workers' Housing Complex and the Social Housing Complex - Lot NO1.

Although they didn't win the Gold award, according to the National Architecture Award Council's assessment, the two Council awards for the two aforementioned projects demonstrate success in terms of planning, organization of public spaces and green spaces, as well as apartment design solutions… This proves that investors are actively innovating in their approach to "smart investment," consciously protecting the environment and sharing benefits with the community.

In addition to the six awards mentioned above, the Awards Council also presented 21 other awards to architects who had created outstanding building designs in other categories such as interior and exterior design, urban design, urban planning projects, architectural publications, etc.

On the morning of April 18th, the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Association of Architects (2015-2020), with the participation of 556 delegates representing nearly 6000 architect members nationwide, will take place at the Hanoi Friendship Cultural Palace.

At 2 PM on the same day, the Awards Council will cut the ribbon to inaugurate the 2014 National Architecture Exhibition and present the 2014 National Architecture Awards. On April 19th, the Vietnam Association of Architects will hold an open seminar on the theme "Architects, Authors, Works." The main content of the seminar will be a discussion about the practice of architecture in Vietnam and the world, architectural integration, and the future of the country's architecture in the new era.

The 9th Congress of the Vietnam Association of Architects will conclude on the afternoon of April 21st.
