Child molestation, sentenced to 18 years in prison

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of June 11, the Provincial People's Court brought the child rape case against Vi Thanh Tung (born in 1975, residing in Yen Khe commune, Con Cuong) to public trial.

According to the indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy, at noon on December 7, 2014, Vi Thanh Tung went to the house of Mr. Luong Cong T., who lived in the same village, to eat and drink alcohol. After running out of alcohol, Mr. T. told his daughter Luong Thi PT (born in 2006) to go buy some. Tung ran out and asked to hitch a ride with PT to go home to sleep. Tung invited the girl into his house to eat sugarcane and committed a depraved act. While he was having sex with PT, Tung's wife came home and discovered the incident. She then told PT's parents about the incident. On December 24, 2014, Mr. Luong Cong T. filed a complaint against Tung's behavior with the authorities.

When the investigation agency got involved, Vi Thi LC (born 2003) - Tung's biological daughter also filed a complaint about her father's depraved behavior towards her in 2009. The investigation agency got involved and determined that on a day in June 2009, Tung had sexual intercourse with LC.

At the trial, Vi Thanh Tung admitted to raping Luong Thi PT, but did not admit to raping Vi Thi LC. During the trial, LC did not admit to reporting her father to the investigation agency and said that she was scolded by the investigating officer and forced to write according to the investigator's wishes. The head of LC's school team, who was invited by the investigating agency to be her guardian, affirmed in court that during the process of taking statements, the investigators did not scold or pressure LC to give statements according to their wishes. At the investigating agency, LC confessed to the incident as stated in the indictment of the People's Procuracy.

After debate, finding that there was not enough basis to prosecute Vi Thanh Tung for rape against Vi Thi LC, the representative of the Provincial People's Procuracy holding the right to prosecute at the trial withdrew this prosecution. After deliberation, the panel sentenced Vi Thanh Tung to 18 years in prison for raping Luong Thi PT. At the same time, Tung was forced to compensate the victim 20 million VND.
