Child abuser sentenced to 18 years in prison.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of June 11th, the Provincial People's Court held a public trial for the child rape case against Vi Thanh Tung (born in 1975, residing in Yen Khe commune, Con Cuong district).

According to the indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy, on the afternoon of December 7, 2014, Vi Thanh Tung went to the house of Mr. Luong Cong T., who lived in the same village, to eat and drink. When the alcohol ran out, Mr. T. asked his daughter, Luong Thi PT (born in 2006), to go buy more. Tung ran out and asked for a ride home to sleep with PT. Tung lured the child into his house to eat sugarcane and committed the heinous act. While he was having sexual intercourse with PT, Tung's wife returned and discovered the incident. She then recounted the event to PT's parents. On December 24, 2014, Mr. Luong Cong T. filed a complaint against Tung with the authorities.

When the investigation began, Vi Thi LC (born in 2003) - Tung's biological daughter - also filed a complaint alleging her father's depraved behavior towards her in 2009. The investigation confirmed that on a day in June 2009, Tung had committed the act of sexual intercourse with LC.

At the trial, Vi Thanh Tung admitted to raping Luong Thi PT, but denied raping Vi Thi LC. During the trial, LC denied reporting her father to the investigating agency and claimed that she was intimidated and forced to write according to the investigators' wishes. The head of the school's student council, who was invited by the investigating agency to act as LC's guardian, affirmed in court that during the questioning process, the investigators did not intimidate or pressure LC into giving her testimony. At the investigating agency, LC confessed to the events as stated in the indictment of the People's Procuracy.

After deliberation, finding insufficient grounds to prosecute Vi Thanh Tung for rape against Vi Thi LC, the representative of the Provincial People's Procuracy, acting as prosecutor at the trial, withdrew this charge. After deliberation, the panel of judges sentenced Vi Thanh Tung to 18 years in prison for the act of raping Luong Thi PT. Additionally, Tung was ordered to compensate the victim 20 million VND.
