Ly Hoang Nam was granted a wildcard entry to Wimbledon 2016.
Winning the 2015 Wimbledon Junior Boys' Doubles title earned Hoang Nam and his partner a direct entry into the first round of the professional doubles tournament the following year.
Ly Hoang Nam made history in Vietnamese tennis on July 12th as the first Vietnamese player to win a Grand Slam junior tournament. This victory also earned Nam and Sumit Nagal (India) a wildcard entry into the first round of the men's doubles at Wimbledon next year. Thus, the 18-year-old player has set another milestone: the first Vietnamese player to participate in a Grand Slam tournament at the professional level.
Typically, to qualify for a Grand Slam at the professional level, a player needs to be ranked around 150th in the world or higher. Ly Hoang Nam is currently ranked 1276th (singles) and 1599th (doubles) on the ATP rankings. Without a wildcard entry from winning a junior tournament, it's uncertain when Hoang Nam would have ever made it to one of the four prestigious Grand Slam tournaments in tennis.

The Wimbledon junior title serves as encouragement for Hoang Nam on his long journey ahead. Next year, upon turning 19, Nam will no longer be able to compete at the junior level. The player from Tay Ninh will begin his professional career. The experiences gained from the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the upcoming US Open junior tournaments will help Hoang Nam quickly integrate into the world of tennis.
Over the past year, Hoang Nam has consistently achieved success, accumulating experience and points to rank 13th in the ITF junior rankings. He consecutively won junior tournaments in Malaysia and India, in both singles and doubles.
Hoang Nam also tried his hand at professional level in Future tournaments, but was eliminated in the quarterfinals in Thailand and Indonesia. In March, the talented player from Tay Ninh also helped the Vietnamese tennis team get promoted to Group II of the Davis Cup Asia-Pacific region.
At the junior Grand Slam level, Hoang Nam's performance gradually improved. He reached the second round of the Australian Open, the third round of Roland Garros, and won the boys' doubles title at Wimbledon. In singles, Hoang Nam lost in the first round to Niklas-Salminen, who reached the semifinals of Wimbledon junior this year.
