Ly Hoang Nam was given special permission to attend Wimbledon 2016.
The 2015 Wimbledon junior men's doubles championship helped Hoang Nam and his teammates go straight to the first round of the professional doubles tournament next year.
Ly Hoang Nam made history in Vietnamese tennis as the first player to win a Grand Slam (Junior level) tournament on July 12. This championship also helped Nam and Sumit Nagal (India) get a special entry into the first round of the men's doubles at Wimbledon next year. Thus, the 18-year-old tennis player created a new milestone: the first Vietnamese tennis player to participate in a Grand Slam tournament, at the professional level.
Normally, to qualify for a Grand Slam at the professional level, a tennis player must be ranked at around 150 in the world or higher. Ly Hoang Nam is currently ranked 1276th (singles) and 1599th (doubles) on the ATP rankings. Without the wild card from winning the junior tournament, it is unknown when Hoang Nam will be able to participate in one of the four prestigious Grand Slam tournaments of tennis.

The title at the Wimbledon junior tournament is an encouragement for Hoang Nam on the long road ahead. Next year, when he turns 19, Nam will not be able to compete at the junior level. The tennis player from Tay Ninh will start competing professionally. The experiences from the junior tournaments of the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the upcoming US Open will help Hoang Nam quickly integrate into the world of tennis.
In recent years, Hoang Nam has continuously achieved success, accumulated experience and points to rank 13th in the ITF at the youth level. He has continuously won the youth championship in Malaysia and India, in both men's singles and doubles.
Hoang Nam also tried his hand at professional level in Future tournaments and stopped in the quarterfinals of Thailand and Indonesia. In March, the Tay Ninh native also helped the Vietnamese tennis team advance to Group II of the Davis Cup in the Asia-Pacific region.
At the junior Grand Slam level, Hoang Nam's performance gradually improved. He reached the second round of the Australian Open, the third round of Roland Garros and won the Wimbledon men's doubles. In the singles event, Hoang Nam lost in the first round to Niklas-Salminen, who reached the junior semifinals of Wimbledon this year.
