Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said on July 25 that she did not use her personal email account to receive or send classified information while serving as Secretary of State.

The statement was in response to a letter from the US government inspector general last week, Reuters reported. "At that time, I did not receive or send anything marked classified," Mrs. Hillary said during a campaign stop in Iowa.

Email controversies have dogged Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, adding to concerns that the presumptive presidential nominee may try to sidestep transparency and records-keeping laws.

At least four emails sent from Hillary Clinton's personal email account while she was secretary of state contained classified information, Inspector General Charles McCullough, who oversees US intelligence agencies, said in a letter to Congress.

However, yesterday, Mrs. Hillary said she knew nothing about the emails mentioned by the inspector.

Mr. McCullough cited the example that 40 of the 30,000 emails that Mrs. Hillary received or sent, four of which contained information that the government considered classified. At the time the emails were sent, all of that information was marked secret.

The use of a private email account, which was connected to a server at Hillary's home in New York, has drawn criticism from political opponents since it was revealed in March. Republicans accused Hillary of trying to skirt disclosure laws by using a private system.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Hillary continuously affirmed that she did not violate any laws or regulations by avoiding using a government email account.
