Seminar on Population and Family Planning

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of July 7th, the General Department of Population and Family Planning organized a specialized workshop on population and family planning.

Attending the event were Mr. Nguyen Viet Tien - Deputy Minister of Health; Mr. Nguyen Van Tan, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Population; and representatives from the Population Sub-departments of 31 northern provinces and cities. From Nghe An province, attendees included Ms. Dinh Thi Le Thanh, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, along with representatives from relevant departments and agencies.

According to Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Viet Tien, Vietnam's population work is currently facing many new challenges and emerging issues.

Currently, Vietnam's population and family planning work faces many challenges and emerging issues. These include the serious gender imbalance at birth, the challenge of utilizing and maximizing the advantages of the demographic dividend given the limitations in human resource quality, the importance of caring for the elderly, the low birth rate, and issues related to communication, advocacy, and the provision of reproductive health and family planning services.

Comrade Dinh Thi Le Thanh affirmed: In recent years, population work has made a positive contribution to the socio-economic development of Nghe An province, increasing annual per capita income, eradicating hunger and poverty, and improving the living standards of the people.

This workshop heard reports on projects and models that have been implemented in the past, frankly and objectively acknowledging existing shortcomings. It also listened to discussions, contributions, and sharing of experiences and effective practices to find decisive solutions for the next six months to achieve the planned targets, and especially to address new and pivotal issues in Vietnam's population work.

Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Dinh Thi Le Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, also reported on the changes in Nghe An's population work in recent years. Notably, the number of families with one to two children is becoming increasingly common, the percentage of couples of reproductive age accepting modern contraceptive methods is increasing, contributing to a population growth rate of 1.08%; and the quality of the population is improving. She also affirmed that the workshop was a good opportunity for Nghe An to learn from experience and to promote the image of the province to the numerous delegates in attendance.

On this occasion, on behalf of the Provincial People's Committee, Ms. Dinh Thi Le Thanh also presented a bouquet of flowers to congratulate the General Department of Population and Family Planning on World Population Day, November 7th.
