(Baonghean.vn) -The project to invest in the construction of rural electrification facilities from the national grid in Nghe An province is a key project of the Northern Power Corporation and Nghe An province, aiming to supply electricity to 16 central communes in 3 districts: Tuong Duong, Ky Son, and Quy Chau.
Mr. Va No Vua – Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Long commune shared: Muong Long is a mountainous commune in Ky Son district. The entire commune has 863 households and 4,382 inhabitants. For generations, this area has lacked electricity. Some villages located near streams use mini-hydroelectric power plants, but even these are unreliable, depending on the weather. However, this is still more fortunate than many other households far from streams who are forced to use oil lamps. Without electricity, people's lives are extremely difficult, with impoverished material and spiritual lives. Therefore, when we heard about the project to bring electricity to the people, we were very excited, and the people created all conditions to support the electricity sector.
Mr. Le Quang Thanh, Head of the Project Management Board of Nghe An Power Company, said: "We are striving to connect electricity to the centers of 5 communes – Muong Long, Bac Ly, Pa Danh, Na Loi, and Chau Hoan – before the provincial Party Congress, and to complete the remaining communes by the end of the year to serve the people celebrating the Lunar New Year."To achieve the set goals, there will be a huge amount of work to be done in the coming period; therefore, Nghe An Power Company, all levels of government, and localities must make special efforts. The construction progress of the project needs to be expedited.
Here are some images we captured on a day in early September 2015 in the two communes of Muong Long and My Ly (Ky Son district):
| Ly Y Xe (16 years old) from Sa Lay village (Muong Long district), while sewing her traditional ethnic costume, said that her house is next to a stream, so they have a mini-electricity source, but only for lighting. When they heard the news that the government would bring electricity to their village, everyone was happy. |
| Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien, representative of Ha Mai Company, which is constructing the Muong Long package, said that in order to transport equipment and materials, they had to open access roads in many places. Sometimes, after a road was opened, a heavy rain the next day meant they had to mobilize workers and local people again to clear the road. |
| In the center of Sa Lay village, nearly 20 people, including workers and villagers, are cheering as they pull each pole, bag of cement, sand, and gravel up to the designated stake placement points. |
| The utility poles have been transported by COMECO Company, the contractor for the My Ly package project, and are ready for erection. |
| Electricity to Muong Long is connected from the 35 KV power line from Huoi Tu. To date, 30 out of 61 power poles have been erected in Muong Long. The contractor is striving to complete the pole erection and transformer installation by September 10th, aiming to energize the area before September 30th. In the photo: The transformer installation site in Sa Lay village has been erected, awaiting equipment to complete the installation. |
| In Ky Son district, besides Muong Long commune, four other communes also received electricity on this occasion: My Ly, Pha Danh, Na Loi, and Muong Tip. In the photo: Local people hired to transport materials to the pole erection site in My Ly commune, Ky Son district. |
| According to the plan, electricity will be connected to 5 villages before September 30th, including Trung Tam, Muong Long 1, Muong Long 2, Long Keo, and Sa Lay. The remaining 8 villages will be connected between 2016 and 2020. |

Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, a business owner in the central Muong Long village, said that he and his wife, originally from Thanh Chuong, have lived here for nearly 20 years but have never had access to the national power grid. They are very happy that the government has invested in bringing electricity to their home, hoping it will improve their business and their lives. Not only Mr. Cuong's household, but also other households in the central Muong Long area, and four schools (Muong Long Secondary School, Muong Long 1 Primary School, Muong Long 2 Primary School, and the kindergarten) have had power lines extended to their homes, along with meters, circuit boards, and compact fluorescent lamps installed. |
