A spokesman for the South Sudanese president said the cargo flight had 20 people on board, including five Russian crew members and 15 passengers. If scheduled, the plane would have been carrying cargo from Juba airport to Paloch in the Upper Nile region.
According to initial information, the plane crashed on a small island on the White Nile, located about 800 meters from the flight path. Two of the 20 people mentioned above, including a child and an astronaut, miraculously escaped death.
However, South Sudanese police said that about 40 bodies were found at the crash site. The death toll could rise as the area where the plane crashed is densely populated./.
