Imports of completely assembled cars reached their highest level since 2010.

The number of imported passenger cars with 9 seats or fewer in October 2015 reached its highest level since January 2010.

Preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs show that the import volume of all types of complete automobiles in October 2015 was 13,960 units, an increase of 62.7%, with an import value of US$230 million, an increase of 17.1% compared to the previous month. Of this total, the import volume of passenger cars with 9 seats or fewer reached 7,580 units – the highest level since January 2010, an increase of 115% compared to the previous month and accounting for 55% of the total imported complete automobiles of all types in the month.

From the beginning of the year to the end of October 2015, the total number of complete automobiles of all types imported into the country was 97,320 units, an increase of 88.1%; the value was 2.33 billion USD, a sharp increase of 101.8% compared to the same period in 2014.

China was the main market supplying complete automobiles of all types to Vietnam in the first 10 months of 2015 with 21,050 units, a sharp increase of 115%; followed by South Korea: 20,790 units, an increase of 59.3%; Thailand: 20,330 units, an increase of 89.8%; India: 17,540 units, an increase of 104.2%... compared to the same period in 2014.

Overall, in the first 10 months of 2015, Vietnam imported nearly 38,680 complete cars with 9 seats or fewer, an increase of 69.7%; valued at 417 million USD, a sharp increase of 50% compared to the same period in 2014.

In particular, over the past 10 months, the leading market supplying passenger cars (9 seats or fewer) to Vietnam was India (of Indian origin) with 17,490 units, accounting for 45% of the country's total imports of this type of car and a 105% increase compared to the same period in 2014. This was followed by South Korea with 8,290 units, a 38.9% increase; Thailand with 4,760 units, a 111% increase; and Japan with 3,340 units, a 47.9% increase compared to the same period in 2014.
