Guus Hiddink is set to replace Mourinho at Chelsea.
The Dutch coach is likely to rejoin his former club in a stopgap role, following Mourinho's dismissal on December 17th.
According to the Telegraph, Guus Hiddink will take over the position left vacant by Jose Mourinho, on a short-term contract until the end of the season. The prestigious English newspaper claims that the 69-year-old Dutch coach has accepted the offer from Chairman Roman Abramovich. He has a very good relationship with the Russian billionaire.
Hiddink may visit the Cobham training ground on December 18th to meet with the Chelsea players, in preparation for the match against Sunderland at the weekend.

Hiddink had experience managing the Stamford Bridge club in 2009, when he also arrived mid-season to replace Luiz Felipe Scolari. The Dutch coach then led Chelsea to win the FA Cup and secure a place in the Champions League the following season. At the end of the season, captain John Terry and goalkeeper Petr Cech expressed their desire for Hiddink to stay at Chelsea, but the Dutch coach wanted to focus on his work with the Russian national team.
Currently, Hiddink is not coaching any club or national team, after being sacked by the Netherlands. He has both the experience and the prestige to lead Chelsea's star-studded squad. By changing managers mid-season, Chelsea wants to escape their crisis in the Premier League. The reigning champions are currently 16th, just one point above the relegation zone. Chelsea have lost two consecutive matches, and nine games out of 16 rounds.
Besides Hiddink, the British media have also mentioned other candidates to replace Mourinho. Prominent among them are Brendan Rodgers, Diego Simeone, and Pep Guardiola. The Spanish strategist may leave Bayern Munich, but at least not until the end of this season when his contract expires.
