Guus Hiddink is about to replace Mourinho at Chelsea
The Dutch coach will likely reunite with his old team in a firefighting role, as Mourinho was fired on December 17.
According to Telegraph, Guus Hiddink will take over the position left by Jose Mourinho, on a short-term contract until the end of the season. The prestigious British newspaper confirmed that the 69-year-old Dutch coach has accepted the invitation of Chairman Roman Abramovich. He has a very good relationship with the Russian billionaire.
Hiddink could arrive at Cobham training ground on December 18 to meet Chelsea players, preparing for the match against Sunderland at the weekend.

Hiddink has experience of leading the Stamford Bridge team in 2009, when he also left mid-season to replace Luiz Felipe Scolari. The Dutch coach then led Chelsea to the FA Cup and a place in the Champions League the following season. At the end of the season, captain John Terry and goalkeeper Petr Cech expressed their desire for Hiddink to stay at Chelsea, but the Dutch coach wanted to focus on his work with the Russian national team.
Hiddink is currently not coaching any club or national team after being fired by the Netherlands. He has both experience and prestige enough to lead Chelsea's star players. By changing managers midway, Chelsea wants the team to escape the crisis in the Premier League. The reigning champions are ranked 16th, only one point above the relegation zone. Chelsea have lost two consecutive matches, losing nine matches after 16 rounds.
In addition to Hiddink, the British media also mentioned other candidates to replace Mourinho. Notably Brendan Rodgers, Diego Simeone or Pep Guardiola. The Spanish strategist can say goodbye to Bayern Munich, but at least until the end of this season when his contract ends.
