Earning 200 million VND per year from rabbit farming.
(Baonghean) - After two years of implementation, the rabbit farming model of Ms. Tran Thi Le Thuy's family in Hamlet 4, Quynh Lien Commune, Hoang Mai Town, generates nearly 200 million VND per year and is being expanded by the family.
With a grant of 40 million VND from the town's Economic Department's project and her family's capital, Ms. Thuy started raising rabbits in 2014. At that time, no family in Hoang Mai town was raising rabbits commercially.
The rabbit breed chosen by her family is a New Zealand hybrid imported from the Shanxi Goat and Rabbit Research Center - Institute of Animal Husbandry. From the initial 10 breeding rabbits, the herd of foreign breed rabbits has now grown to 500.

| Besides selling rabbits for meat, she also sells breeding stock to households that need them for farming. 1.5-month-old baby rabbits can be sold as breeding stock for 150,000 VND per pair. |
This rabbit breed has many advantages, such as rapid growth and development, and its meat is delicious and appealing. On a 100m² area, she built a farm consisting of many rows and compartments, each measuring approximately 50cm x 70cm. The cages are placed on stilts about 50-60cm above the ground. The bottom of each cage has openings to allow droppings to fall to the ground. Each compartment is equipped with a feed trough and a water trough.
Every day, she regularly cleans the cages to ensure good ventilation and cleanliness. As a result, her family's rabbit herd thrives. After 3 months, the rabbits reach an average weight of 2-2.5 kg/each, and after 5 months, they reach 4-5 kg/each. The average selling price is 90,000 VND/kg, and they are regularly purchased by restaurants in the area, so they sell everything they raise.

| Rabbits are very prolific breeders, with an average of 6-7 litters per year, and 6-7 offspring per litter. After 10 days, the baby rabbits open their eyes and begin to eat with their mother; they can be separated from their mother at 20 days old. |
Overall, rabbits have a high disease resistance, resulting in low risks in rabbit farming. After more than two years of raising rabbits, Ms. Thuy's family's rabbit herd has never suffered from any disease. Their diet is quite varied, mainly consisting of green fodder such as milkweed, sweet potato leaves, carrots, sea spinach, and a small amount of refined bran. Quynh Lien is a major vegetable producing area in Hoang Mai town, so the rabbits have an abundant food supply. In addition, rabbits need to be provided with 0.1-0.5 liters of clean water per rabbit per day, with the water changed daily.
Currently, consumer demand for clean food is increasing, so the rabbit farming model of Ms. Thuy's family is an effective direction for many farmers. The entire Quynh Lien commune has about 10 households raising rabbits.
Despite requiring little effort or investment, rabbit farming has become the main source of income for Ms. Thuy's family. On average, she earns nearly 200 million VND annually from selling commercial rabbits and breeding rabbits.
