Income 200 million VND/year from rabbit farming
(Baonghean) - After 2 years of implementation, the rabbit farming model of Ms. Tran Thi Le Thuy's family in Hamlet 4, Quynh Lien Commune, Hoang Mai Town has brought in an income of nearly 200 million VND/year and is being expanded by the family.
With support of 40 million VND from the project fund of the Town Economic Department plus her family's capital, in 2014, Ms. Thuy started raising rabbits. At that time, in Hoang Mai town, there was no family raising commercial rabbits.
The rabbit breed chosen by her family is a New Zealand hybrid rabbit imported from the Son Tay Goat and Rabbit Research Center - Animal Husbandry Institute. From the initial 10 rabbits, the herd of foreign rabbits has now grown to 500.

Not only selling rabbits for meat, she also sells breeding rabbits to households who want to raise them. 1.5 month old baby rabbits can be sold for 150,000 VND/pair. |
This is a rabbit breed with many advantages such as the ability to grow and develop quickly, and delicious, attractive meat. On an area of 100m2, she built a barn with many rows and compartments, each compartment measuring about 50cm x 70cm. The cages are placed on pillars about 50-60cm above the ground. The bottom of the cage has a gap to drain manure to the ground. Each compartment is equipped with a trough for concentrated feed and a water trough.
Every day, she regularly cleans the cages to create ventilation and cleanliness. Thanks to that, the family's rabbits have developed very well. After 3 months, the rabbits reach an average weight of 2-2.5 kg/head, after 5 months they reach 4-5 kg/head. The average selling price is 90,000 VND/1kg and is regularly ordered by local restaurants, so they are sold out as soon as they are raised.

Rabbits are very fertile animals, on average a female gives birth to 6-7 litters per year, each litter has 6-7 babies. After 10 days, baby rabbits open their eyes and learn to eat with their mother, after 20 days they can be separated from their mother. |
In general, rabbits have a high resistance to disease, so the risk of raising them is low. After more than 2 years of raising rabbits, Ms. Thuy's family's rabbits have never been sick. Rabbits' food is quite diverse, mainly green food such as milkweed, sweet potato leaves, carrots, sea spinach and a little bran. Quynh Lien is a vegetable farm of Hoang Mai town, so the source of rabbit food is abundant. In addition, rabbits need to be provided with clean water, 0.1 - 0.5 liters per day, and changed daily.
Nowadays, consumer demand for clean food is increasing, so the rabbit farming model of Ms. Thuy's family is an effective direction for many farmers. The whole Quynh Lien commune has about 10 households raising rabbits.
Although it does not require much effort and investment, rabbit farming has become the main income for Ms. Thuy's family. On average, each year she earns nearly 200 million VND from selling commercial rabbits and breeding rabbits.
