The Vietnam Farmers' Association has a new president.

With 100% of the votes, Mr. Lai Xuan Mon was elected Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers' Association for the sixth term.

On April 22nd, in Hanoi, the 8th Conference of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association (6th term) was held to finalize the position of Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers' Association for the 6th term (2013-2018). Mr. Mai Van Chinh, Deputy Head of the Central Organization Department, attended the Conference.

The conference heard the Politburo's announcement that Mr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, former member of the Central Committee of the Party, Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers' Association (6th term, 2013-2018), and member of the 13th National Assembly, would step down from his position as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association to retire effective October 1, 2016.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Lai Xuan Mon expressed his sincere gratitude to the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association for their trust and confidence in entrusting him with this important responsibility. The current concern of the leadership of the Vietnam Farmers' Association is the complex situation of drought, natural disasters, and unsafe food occurring nationwide, which significantly affects the lives and production of farmers.

The new Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers' Association stated that in the coming time, he will continue to train, study, and dedicate himself to meeting the requirements of the đổi mới (renovation) period and excellently fulfilling the tasks entrusted by the Party and the people.

Mr. Lai Xuan Mon, born in 1963 in Nam Dinh province, holds a Master's degree in Economics. Prior to being elected Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers' Association, Mr. Lai Xuan Mon was a member of the Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association.

At the 12th National Congress of the Party, Mr. Lai Xuan Mon was elected to the 12th Central Committee of the Party.
