Construction work is underway to dredge the ancient moat surrounding the citadel.

Along the moat of Vinh Ancient Citadel, the Hoa Hiep – Thinh Hung joint venture is constructing the embankment and base of the citadel, as well as dredging the citadel's lakebed. However, only about 15% of the work has been completed, significantly behind schedule due to numerous obstacles in land clearance. Some households in Cua Nam, Quang Trung, and Doi Cung wards have not yet agreed to the compensation plan.

Workers are building a stone embankment at the bottom of the lake.

Specifically, in Cua Nam ward, there are still 45 households whose compensation plans have not been approved; in Quang Trung ward, there are 3 households that have not accepted the compensation plan; and in Doi Cung ward, there are 5 households that have not accepted the plan due to reasons such as low compensation prices for land and assets, and the need to request resettlement land.

The city has now allocated 100 resettlement plots in Quan Bau for the households.

Regarding the progress of land clearance, Mr. Ha Thanh Tinh, Vice Chairman of the Vinh City People's Committee, said: The city is replanning the area of resettlement plots to match the area of land reclaimed from affected people. The city always creates conditions for those being resettled to have better living conditions than their previous homes.

The project to renovate and upgrade the ancient moat is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2017 with the following main items: dredging, construction of retaining walls along both banks of the moat, construction of a main sewer line to collect wastewater, construction of new moats inside and outside the ancient citadel, and construction of 6 discharge gates and 6 manholes to separate wastewater.

To separate domestic wastewater from residential areas outside the Ancient Citadel and prevent it from flowing into the surrounding canals, the project involves constructing a series of sewer pipes with diameters ranging from DN300 to D800 along the length of the canals surrounding the Ancient Citadel. These pipes will collect wastewater and transport it to a newly built wastewater pumping station with a capacity of 3,100 m3/day/night at Cua Nam Lake.
