A premature baby boy, born after his mother was bitten by a rabid dog, has died.

(Baonghean.vn) - After 10 days of intensive care and treatment, but due to having to fight against complex co-morbidities in a premature infant, the baby boy of a woman bitten by a rabid dog has passed away.

According to Dr. Tran Thi Ngan, from the Obstetrics Department of Nghe An General Hospital, at 3:00 AM on June 21st, the newborn's condition began to worsen, with episodes of apnea and elevated blood sugar levels; however, there was improvement with stimulation. Doctors adjusted the oxygen level on the ventilator to ensure the baby's respiration. By 9:30 AM, the baby's condition deteriorated further with deep episodes of apnea, and the heart rate dropped to 60 beats per minute; continuous resuscitation with manual ventilation and chest compressions was required before the baby's complexion returned to normal.

The glimmer of hope to sustain the baby's life was short-lived, as at around 11:00 AM, the baby's condition worsened, with an irregular heartbeat. By 12:30 PM, all resuscitation efforts by the doctors were unsuccessful, and the baby died due to premature birth.

Previously, Nghe An Friendship General Hospital admitted and treated patient Nguyen Thi Tin (32 years old), 33 weeks pregnant, diagnosed with rabies. On June 10th, patient Tin passed away and was transferred to the operating room for a cesarean section. A baby boy weighing 1.6 kg was born with a rather poor prognosis.
