Premature baby boy dies after mother is bitten by rabid dog

(Baonghean.vn)- After 10 days of intensive care and treatment, due to having to fight against complex combined diseases in a weak newborn, the baby boy of the mother bitten by a rabid dog did not survive.

Doctor Tran Thi Ngan, Department of Obstetrics, Nghe An General Hospital, said that at 3am on June 21, the newborn baby began to show signs of deterioration, with episodes of apnea and high blood sugar; however, it improved when stimulated. Doctors adjusted the oxygen concentration of the ventilator to ensure the baby could breathe. At 9:30am, the baby's condition worsened with episodes of deep apnea, and the heart rate dropped to 60 beats/minute; it took continuous resuscitation with balloon compression and external chest compression for the baby to regain its color.

The hope of saving the baby’s life was not long in coming, but at around 11am, the baby fell into a critical condition, with his heart beating erratically. At 12:30pm, all efforts by the doctors to revive the baby were unsuccessful, and the baby died due to premature birth.

Previously, Nghe An General Hospital received patient Nguyen Thi Tin (32 years old), 33 weeks pregnant, diagnosed with rabies. On June 10, the patient was pronounced dead and was transferred to the operating table to deliver the baby, a 1.6 kg baby boy was born with a rather poor prognosis.
