Yong Huang, manager of agricultural science at Epcot, part of the Walt Disney World Resort, found the special tomato plant in Beijing, China. Recognizing its potential as a tourist attraction, Huang brought the seeds back and planted them in several pots around the park.

Heirloom Tomatoes take 1.2 - 1.5 years to fully develop. They do not produce fruit for the first 7 - 8 months. But when mature, each harvest can yield an average of more than 14,000 fruits.

The Guinness Book of World Records records the largest harvest of tomatoes produced by one of two Octopus Tomatoes on display at Epcot as 32,000 tomatoes weighing a total of 522 kg.
