| Every 4-5am, households in the two communes of Hung Yen Bac and Hung Yen Nam wake up early to prepare to go to work. They gather in groups of about 5-6 people to go to neighboring districts and Vinh city to lay the foundation for the projects. |

After a period of working in the fields, my family and some other workers often travel to different localities to build foundations for constructions. The work is tiring but it is also fun once you get used to it. This job requires patience and dexterity.” |

| The income from foundation work depends on the scale of the project. Most owners will pay workers a fixed amount of money, negotiated by both parties. Small foundations cost 8-10 million VND in total and take about 10 days to complete. Large foundations cost about 15-50 million VND. If not paid as a lump sum but calculated by the day, each day, a nail worker will be paid 250,000 VND. |
