The Hmong farmers are getting rich in Na Ngoi.
(Baonghean.vn) - Implementing the policy of restructuring crop and livestock production, many households in Na Ngoi commune (Ky Son district) have invested in developing family farms and large-scale farms, bringing high economic efficiency and helping them escape poverty sustainably.
Mr. Vu Va Nenh's household in Phu Kha 1 village, Na Ngoi commune, owns 5 hectares of land. Previously, they only cleared land for slash-and-burn farming and corn cultivation, which did not yield high income. After the policy of restructuring crop and livestock production was implemented, he invested in a family farm raising buffalo and cattle. Initially, his family faced many difficulties due to a lack of experience and technical skills. Undeterred, he continued to research and learn about livestock farming from exemplary households and disease prevention methods. Thanks to applying the right methods, his livestock herd has grown steadily. Today, his farm has 13 cows, 7 buffaloes, and over 1 hectare of rice paddies, generating an annual income of 50 to 60 million VND.

Mr. Vu Chu Va's farm, also in Phu Kha 1 village, was established in 2000, initially with capital from government support for opium eradication. He borrowed additional funds from the Policy Bank to buy a pair of breeding buffaloes. Thanks to his diligence, hard work, and proper care, the buffaloes thrived and quickly increased in size. Mr. Va now owns 10 buffaloes. In addition, he raises 13 cows. Each year, he sells 3 to 4 buffaloes and cows, earning 130-140 million VND. Utilizing the available land, Mr. Va has also reclaimed nearly 2 hectares of rice paddies, over 100 square meters of fish ponds, and raised various poultry, improving his family's livelihood and increasing his income.

Besides the two family farms of Mr. Vu Chu Va and Mr. Vu Va Nenh in Phu Kha 1 village, Na Ngoi commune also has dozens of other family farms that generate hundreds of millions of dong in income each year. Currently, Na Ngoi has over 40 households that meet the criteria for recognition as family farms and large-scale farms. These family farm and large-scale farm models in Na Ngoi have proven effective in generating economic income for the people. Many families who were previously poor or near-poor have now achieved stable lives and become well-off or wealthy households in the commune. The average per capita income of the people has reached 8-9 million dong/year, an increase of more than 2 million dong compared to 2014.

Mr. Mua Dua Thai, Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the People's Committee of Na Ngoi commune, said: Developing the economy according to the family farm and farm model is one of the highly effective economic directions for Na Ngoi commune. It utilizes low-productivity land, vacant land, and barren hills in the area, exploits the potential and advantages of the commune, creates many jobs for people, and makes an important contribution to socio-economic development, fulfilling the goals set out in the Resolution of the Na Ngoi Commune Party Congress, term 2015-2020. This is truly a sustainable direction for the ethnic people here, and at the same time, it is a stepping stone to promote the development of the commune, making an important contribution to the goal of building a new rural area.
