Planting public trees: Must follow regulations!

(Baonghean) - Currently, Vinh City has a large number of trees planted, creating necessary green spaces for the urban environment. However, due to a lack of proper planning, some tree species are unsuitable and inconsistent, causing the city's green areas to lack distinctiveness, highlights, and rich identity.

Besides public spaces like Ho Chi Minh Square, Nguyen Tat Thanh Park, and Nui Quyet Forest Park, government offices, schools, and most streets are shaded by trees.

The trees in Vinh City are very diverse, including: Terminalia catappa, flamboyant, crape myrtle, mahogany, royal palm, and even mango, mango, palm, black star tree, paulownia, and milkwood... To combat the intense summer heat, not only the government but also all the city's residents plant more trees around their houses and in front of public sidewalks.

Trees not only provide shade but also enhance the beauty of the city. Many tree-lined streets, such as Ngu Hai, Dinh Cong Trang, Le Mao, Le Hoan, Duy Tan, Le Hong Phong, Nguyen Van Cu, Phan Dinh Phung, and Phan Boi Chau, create an overall urban landscape with a refreshing green hue, especially during hot summer afternoons.

Residents on Nguyen Nang Tinh Street have planted more trees themselves.

However, during the city's development, there were times when trees were planted very quickly but without proper planning, resulting in some tree species being unsuitable for urban spaces, such as milkwood, paulownia, and royal palm.

Furthermore, due to lax planning management, the spontaneous planting of trees on some streets in new urban areas is quite chaotic, as exemplified by the Golden City new urban area. Many rare and valuable trees, such as mango, sapodilla, vối, and even ancient sang lẻ trees, are planted by individuals and businesses on sidewalks.

These trees are all beautiful, but in the context of urban aesthetics, they create a chaotic mix of species, sizes, and spacing between them. The section of Nguyen Nang Tinh street was originally planned to have black star trees planted at reasonable distances on the sidewalk, but later, families using the sidewalk planted many other types of trees in between, and even uprooted the black star trees to plant larger ones.

Although shade was provided early on, the green space plan here has been disrupted. A similar situation is occurring on To Ngoc Van Street and many other sections of this new urban area.

It's important to understand that urban green architecture requires not only shade but also aesthetic appeal, creating distinctive features for streets, ensuring traffic safety, and maintaining cleanliness in the streets and neighborhoods. If everyone is left to plant trees as they please, the city might become greener, but it certainly won't be more beautiful.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thang, Head of the Urban Management Department of Vinh City, said that the city manages the green space planning on each street, and all relocation and new planting require permits from the authorities; however, the management cannot yet cover everything.

To address this situation, Vinh City is finalizing a plan to adjust the city's green space system until 2025 with new standards that meet the requirements of a modern, distinctive, and environmentally friendly "green city".

Accordingly, green architecture will be planned more scientifically and managed more strictly, meeting the need for social interaction spaces and increasing the landscape value of the city.

However, implementing the project would require significant resources that the city's current budget cannot provide. To address the immediate need for managing and developing green spaces, based on the project's content, the Urban Management Department is advising on the development of regulations for planning and managing green spaces, gradually bringing the city's tree planting into a more organized and aesthetically pleasing standard.

Accordingly, both citizens and businesses can plant trees in public spaces, but they must comply with the city's regulations on this matter. Only then will greenery truly become a distinctive feature and a source of pride for the people of Vinh City, and a positive impression in the eyes of passersby.
