Planting public trees: Must follow standards!
(Baonghean) - Currently, the number of trees planted in Vinh city is large, creating necessary green areas for urban space. However, due to the lack of reasonable planning, there are inappropriate and inconsistent types of trees, making the green areas of the city lack characteristics, highlights, and rich identity.
In addition to public places such as Ho Chi Minh Square, Nguyen Tat Thanh Park, Nui Quyet Park..., offices, schools and most streets are shaded by trees.
Trees in Vinh City are very diverse such as: banyan, royal poinciana, purple-flowered lagerstroemia, acacia, areca, and even mango, mulberry, palm, black star, parasol, milk... To combat the intense heat of summer, not only the government but also all city residents plant more trees around their houses and on public sidewalks.
Trees not only cool the city but also beautify it. Many tree-lined streets such as Ngu Hai, Dinh Cong Trang, Le Mao, Le Hoan, Duy Tan, Le Hong Phong, Nguyen Van Cu, Phan Dinh Phung, Phan Boi Chau... create an overall landscape of the city with a cool green color every summer noon.

However, during the city's development, there were times when trees were planted very quickly but without proper planning, so there were types of trees that were not suitable for urban spaces, such as milk flower, parasol tree, areca nut tree...
In addition, due to loose planning management, spontaneous tree planting on some streets in new urban areas is still quite messy, such as in the new urban area Golden City. There are many rare trees planted by individuals and businesses in front of the sidewalks such as mưng, sa sữa, vối, sanh, and even some ancient cassia trees.
These trees are all beautiful, but if considered in the general urban aesthetics, they create confusion in terms of species, sizes and distances between trees. Nguyen Nang Tinh Street was originally planned to plant black star trees at reasonable calculated distances on the sidewalk, but later, families using the sidewalk planted many other types of trees in between, even uprooting the black star trees to plant larger trees.
Although there was shade early, the green tree planning here has been broken. The same situation is happening on To Ngoc Van street and many other streets in this new urban area.
It is important to note that urban green architecture requires not only shade but also aesthetics, creating a distinctive feature for the streets, and ensuring traffic safety, but also keeping the streets and neighborhoods clean and beautiful. If everyone were to plant trees on their own, the city could be greener but obviously not more beautiful.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thang - Head of Vinh City Urban Management Department said that the city manages the planning of trees on each street, all relocations and new plantings must be licensed by the authorities, however, the management cannot cover everything.
To overcome the above situation, Vinh city is completing the project to adjust the planning of the green tree system of Vinh city until 2025 with new standards suitable for the requirements of a modern, unique, and environmentally friendly "green city".
Accordingly, green architecture will be planned more scientifically and managed more closely, meeting the needs of social communication space and increasing the landscape value of the city.
However, to implement the project, a huge amount of resources will be needed that the city budget cannot currently meet. To solve the urgent need in the management of planning and development of green trees, based on the content of the project, the Urban Management Department is consulting on the development of a regulation on planning and management of green trees, to gradually bring the planting of green trees in the city into order and according to a new, more beautiful and modern standard.
Accordingly, people and businesses can plant trees in public spaces but must comply with the city's regulations on this issue. Only then will trees truly become a unique beauty, a source of pride for the people of Vinh city and a "plus point" in the eyes of passersby.
