(Baonghean.vn) – This is the first year that Khanh Son commune (Nam Dan district) has converted 15 hectares of land previously used for peanut cultivation to chili pepper cultivation. The chili peppers yield high productivity, reaching 7 quintals per sao (approximately 1000 square meters), estimated to bring in 1.5 billion VND per year.

Accordingly, the three hamlets of Khanh Son 1 and the nine hamlets of Khanh Son 2 planted 15 hectares of chili peppers; of which 10.5 hectares were local chili varieties and 4.5 hectares were commercial chili peppers. On average, each household planted 1.5 - 2 sao (approximately 1000-2000 square meters) of chili peppers.

At this time of year, farmers in Khanh Son are in the middle of harvesting chili peppers.

For households cultivating 2 sao (approximately 2,000 square meters), harvesting a batch of chili peppers (provided to a partner enterprise) every two days yields about 15-20 kg of chili peppers, bringing in about 200,000 VND. Thus, with a harvesting period of 5-6 months, the average monthly income is 2 million VND. Local chili varieties are grown on a larger area but are not as expensive as bird's eye chili. Therefore, people mainly dry them; 4 kg of fresh chili peppers yield 1 kg of dried chili peppers, priced at 40,000 VND/kg.
