Son Doong Cave, located in Quang Binh province, has officially become the first and only place in the world to have its world record recognized by all three world record organizations (Guinness World Records, the US and Indian World Records Union, and the Hong Kong World Records Association).

Previously, in 2015, the Guinness World Records book, published globally, officially introduced the record of Son Doong Cave in Vietnam.

In early 2016, the Vietnam Record Organization - Vietkings submitted a record nomination dossier for Son Doong Cave to the World Record Association and the World Record Alliance, requesting these two record organizations to consider granting a world record certificate to Quang Binh province, with the content "Son Doong Cave is the largest natural cave in the world".

Following the nomination, in June 2016, the World Records Association recognized the record for Son Doong Cave. And on July 24, 2016, the WorldKings Alliance also confirmed the world record for this cave with three main points: The first person to explore and discover Son Doong Cave was Mr. Ho Khanh, a Vietnamese farmer, in 1991; the Royal British Cave Association was the organization that explored the cave and determined its size and dimensions in 2009; and Son Doong Cave is located in Son Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province, Vietnam.

Reportedly, all costs for world record organizations to recognize the record for Son Doong Cave were sponsored by the Vietnam Record Organization.

Located within the Phong Nha - Ke Bang cave complex (Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province), Son Doong Cave is believed by scientists to have formed approximately 2 to 5 million years ago. It is estimated to be at least 6.5 km long, 200 m high, and 150 m wide. These dimensions have allowed Son Doong to surpass Deer Cave in Malaysia to achieve the world record.
