What will President Duterte discuss during his visit to Vietnam?

On September 28, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte of the Republic of the Philippines began an official visit to Vietnam from September 28-29 at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang.

This is President Rodrigo Roa Duterte's first visit to Vietnam and his fourth overseas trip since taking office (June 30, 2016).

Accompanying President Rodrigo Roa Duterte were Secretary of State Perfecto R. Yasay; Secretary of Justice Vitaliano N. Aguirre; Secretary of Commerce and Industry Ramon M. Lopez; National Security Advisor Hermogenes C. Esperon; Senator Alan Peter S. Cayetano; Secretary of Communications Jose Ruperto Martin M. Andanar; Cabinet Secretary for Food Leoncio Padilla Evasco; and Philippine Ambassador to Hanoi Noel Servigon.

President of the Republic of the Philippines Rodrigo Roa Duterte was born on March 28, 1945, in Leyte, Philippines. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the Lyceum of the Philippines (1986).

During his career, from 1977 to 1986, Rodrigo Roa Duterte worked at the Prosecutor's Office in Davao City, southern Philippines; from 1986 to 1987, he served as Deputy Mayor of Davao City.

From 1988 to 1998, he served as Mayor of Davao City. From 1998 to 2001, he was a Member of the House of Representatives for District 1 of Davao City. From 2001 to 2010, he was Mayor of Davao City. From 2010 to 2013, he was Vice Mayor of Davao City.

From 2013 to 2016, he served as Mayor of Davao City. On June 30, 2016, he was sworn in as the 16th President of the Philippines.

During the official visit of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte of the Republic of the Philippines to Vietnam, the two sides will exchange views on directions and measures to promote the strategic partnership in the coming period, especially in politics, security, defense, economics, and trade. In addition, the two sides will discuss international and regional issues of mutual interest.
